Welcome to Metro Cheapo!

What is Metro Cheapo?

It’s a blog full of tips and advice on saving money in the urban environment. Based on the real-life experiences of semi-professional New York Cheapos, Kat and Shan, Metro Cheapo tests money-saving theories, offers advice on saving money, shares hints for getting cheap deals on everything from food to fashion, and explains how readers can use any city’s resources to save time, money and sanity. It’s just neighborly advice on saving money for our fellow urbanites.

Metro Cheapo realizes that you live in the city for a reason: you love going out with friends, shopping, visiting cultural institutions, and enjoying the unique activities that the metropolis puts at your fingertips. But residing in a city means that a lot of the tried-and-true advice on saving money — or methods for living on the cheap — don’t apply. You probably don’t have a car to visit yard sales every weekend. (Heck, you may not even have a yard.) You might live too far from a Costco or similar discount warehouse that offers items in bulk. It would be nice to get advice on saving money that you could actually use. Everybody can save money on groceries by growing their own produce and canning it for the winter; however, not many apartment dwellers have the luxury of a vegetable garden.

Metro Cheapo seeks to circumvent these little obstacles by adapting time-tested Cheapo advice on saving money to the modern city lifestyle. We welcome tips and advice from our readers, too. We’re always learning.

Ultimately, we think frugal living is the mode of the future. Getting back to the basics, encouraging resourcefulness and reducing the wastefulness of consumerism is what Metro Cheapo is all about. So, welcome to our blog full of advice on saving money for city dwellers!

When do you guess you will update with a new site like this. It’s awesome. I feel that the whole field of urban tightwads needs to get noticed more. Too many suburban and rural cheapos, not enough us city cheapos. Anyhow, this is a kick-ass blog idea. Good luck!

Cool, good blog! I need to save money. Yes, indeed, nice work. I was thinking of starting a product review blog and will soon be adding reviews on other blogs. Maybe you could add them to your blog, like the top best 10 money saving websites to visit. I’m also doing reviews on product recalls … really all types of consumer product reviews. Anyway, please let me know, thank you.

  • Hi! I just wanted to give you thanks for sharing your advice on saving money and personal opinions with your readers. After reading all of this article, I was wondering if you will write your thoughts about saving money on car insurance quotes. Many thanks.

I obviously see why it’s crucial to save money. Simply because if you tend to be a spendthrift, that is actually lazy to do anything at all with the useful info out there, and it’s much better to stay away from an expensive lifestyle. Very little happens simply by itself, especially definitely not saving money. It is however quite different if you actually are the sort that takes action, there’s really some very good info along with beneficial tools online that you can make use of any time you want to stay on budget and protect your bottom line. Like this site, for example! :D

I’ll be back again, thanks for the info.

I do like Metro Cheapo very much, is really informative and the best part is that only the required part is elaborated — to the point, concise information always helps and keeps readers from running around digging for the information that will never require a reread. I really want to subscribe to your site, read these articles, and check how easy it is to save and respect money.

Funny, this page is totally unrelated from what I was checking Google for, however this post was listed on the first page. Why your article was included on my search results I can’t figure out; that said, it has not been a waste of time, I read this article, it was very interesting — good luck on your site!

  • It is the ones who don’t take action, and do nothing more than spend money, who are always crying broke. If that’s the case for you, it is much better to get yourself some money saving advice. There’s more tough work than magic inside changing your spending habits. But there’s a lot of great information and methods to benefit from, for those who do take action, and in fact do something more than just dream about money.

  • I need to save money and will enjoy reading this blog … awesome.

Hi, I’m from Germany and really like your saving money blog. This post was great btw ;-) OK but I need advice on saving money and have a question: Next month I will be in your country because of my job (car-trader) and I’m looking for sites to sell my cars and other stuff local. Do you know some sites like this? I know there are eBay and Craigslist but I need more sites, to have more chances in your country! Thank you and best regards :) (in three days I will look for an answer in your saving money blog!)

  • This article is very important to me, and I like it very much, I will add it to my favorites.
