Cheap candle holders from IKEA: Neglinge tealight holders/candlesticks and Tindra tealights in action
A little mood lighting can do wonders. It can transform an ordinary white-walled room into a glowing chapel of serenity and romance. It can create an atmosphere of warmth, tranquility and quiet inspiration. Light a couple of candles (with cheap candle holders) and you’ll significantly improve your next hot date, relaxing bath, or dinner party with friends. Not bad for an investment of just a few bucks.
If you haven’t yet discovered IKEA, or if their furniture just isn’t your style, consider their cheap candle holders and other candlelight offerings. On a recent trip to our nearest IKEA store in Brooklyn, I was delighted with a purchase of two Neglinge tealight holders, each costing $0.49 (yes, UNDER 50 cents.) And — get this — they double as candlesticks! Honestly, I couldn’t remember the last time I bought anything at that meager price, let alone something so adorable.
I confess not knowing that the cheap tealight holders were also candlesticks until after arriving home. Examining my purchase, I happened to flip one over and then said to myself, “Wow, that’s clever.” IKEA offers pillar candles in packages of 8 for $2.99, a cheap deal anyone ought to snap up. Next time, you can bet I will. Cheap candle holders that are cleverly designed and visually appealing? Leave it to IKEA’s brilliance!
Thinking these Neglinge cuties were just tealight holders, I got only tealight candles. But this, of course, was another amazing IKEA deal. The Tindra scented tealights are priced at $3.99 in a package of 36 and come in an array of color palettes and scents. Orange appealed to me (no pun intended) because we have an orange-accented home office and I liked the autumnal look. If you want to bag an even better deal, go with the Glimma tealights. It’s $3.99 for 100 of the little suckers, but you’ll sacrifice the choice of colors and scents: Glimmas are plain Jane tealights, white and unscented. With the money you’ll save on the cheap candle holders, you can splurge a bit on the scented tealights.
CAUTION: Please read IKEA’s online guide to candle safety — we want you to light up your life and live to tell about it.
Total purchase price for a season of candlelit dinners, bubble baths, and romantic interludes: $4.97.
This purchase of cheap candle holders and tealights probably represents the best 5 bucks I’ve spent since childhood. Remember blowing your allowance on a (fill-in-the-blank: Monkees, Peter Frampton, Run-DMC) album? That’s a crazy long time.
